Nobody phones a British Columbia water well owner when the rules change.

In BC, a groundwater rule can be proposed, passed, and in force before most of the people it affects have heard a word. A deadline goes by. Then one day a lender asks for a water licence before approving a mortgage, a letter arrives from the Province, or a sale stalls a week before closing. That is how most rural BC property owners find out.

The BC Groundwater Wire exists so you hear it first, in plain words, with what it means for your water well, your farm, or your rural property.

What You’ll Find Here

• The Changelog: every change to BC groundwater rules, dated and sourced, from first proposal to in force. Each entry says who it affects and, just as useful, what hasn’t changed.
• Short Wires: quick, practical reads on the questions people bring to a driller’s truck window. Do I need a groundwater licence? What does a well record tell me? What do I check before I buy?
• The Monthly Briefing: one email at 6:00 am on the first Tuesday. What changed, one thing worth knowing, and the month’s Wires in a single read.
• Dispatches: an email only when something can’t wait, such as a drought order or a deadline.

Who writes it? I’m Colleen Roberts. I’ve worked in BC groundwater for more than three decades, and I’ve watched too many good people lose time and money over rules nobody explained to them. Most of it was avoidable. The Wire is my answer to that.

Who’s behind it? The BC Groundwater Wire is an independent publication from the team at BCGroundwaterWire.ca. It isn’t affiliated with, or endorsed by, any government body.
